Perched at local businesses, schools, hospitals, rec centers, and on public or private display, the mermaids came to Norfolk about 10 years ago as part of a campaign to benefit the arts and have continued to bring good spirits to the Hampton Roads area.
This lady was spotted at Blue Heron Realty, 113 Mason Avenue, Cape Charles, VA, on June 27, 2010. She was tucked away in the back of the office keeping a bunch of unused statues company and not doing much else. Poor thing.
Celebrating the Arts - found her on Strawberry Street in Charles County, VA. While she could use a little cosmetic work, she stands watch in front of The Tulle Box. She was spotted here on June 27, 2010.
Mer Majesty was spotted at 3121 Sandfiddler Road, Virginia Beach on June 27, 2010. She's the only lady we've found in Sandbridge, though there are plenty of dolphins and horses on parade in that area, as well.
Reflections of the Soul was spotted December 28, 2009 at 1204 N. Fairwater Drive, Norfolk. Her owner says she was designed in honor of his wife and daughter. The mermaid's face is molded after the face of his wife, while the reflection in the mirror she holds is the face of his daughter.
